Events 2012

Our events during the first months of 2012 cannot be held in St James’ while the building is being converted into an Arts Centre and will be elsewhere in New Mills. Our first event in the new centre (apart from the site visits) is planned for April 28th. We are very grateful to all the performers who have given their time and talents towards fundraising for the project.

Thursday February 16th

“Wilfred Owen and the Ripon Connection”

Library Lecture Room
An illustrated talk by Dr Roger Kendall on the poems Owen wrote and revised whilst recuperating in Ripon Camp. From there he went back to the Front and died just before the Armistice.

The Dulcian Wind Quintet

A welcome return by these talented musicians who will perform a listenable and enjoyable programme.

“My Darling Clemmie”

The story of Churchill seen through the eyes of his wife. International actress Rohan McCullough (remember her “Testament of Youth”?) stars in a one-woman portrayal, scripted by Hugh Whitemore – award-winning writer for film and stage.

Derbyshire Open Arts Event

Spring Bank Arts Centre
A weekend of exhibitions by a group of artists in the newly-opened Centre. This is part of a county-wide event and will be an exciting first in our programme.

Buxton Festival Fringe

We will be available once more as an outreach venue for Fringe bookings.

Events in the Library Lecture Room have strictly limited seating and advance purchase of tickets is advised. Discounts apply to current members of the Friends.
